The Southwestern Native American pottery and Kachina collections of Dr. Larry Strate
Three tribes represented are
the Acoma, the Santa Clara, and the Casa Grandes.
The Casa Grandes are among the oldest
tribes. The Acoma pottery is known for its very
thin walls, stylistic fluted rims and beautifully
painted geometric designs. The Santa Clara pottery is some of the most beautiful in the world. The distinctive black on black and deep carved pottery is the foundation of traditional Santa Clara pottery.
The Kachina dolls are of Hopi and Navajo
design. They are still made for the children to
facilitate learning of their customs and tribal ways;
and they are also made for collectors. The two
Navajo blankets on display exhibit the traditional
bright colors and tribal patterns of these native
tribes.
In perfect compliment to Dr. Strate's collections, we have on display, ancient pottery from
200 - 1450, AD
